The North Carolina Department of Transportation will be replacing existing culverts carrying Sand Hill Creek under NC 133 (River Road) with a new bridge. The project may begin as early as December 2, 2024, and is expected to be completed by Fall 2025. NC 133 (River Road) and Funston Road will be closed to through traffic during construction.
Approximately 1/2 mile of NC 133 (River Road) will be closed from North of Funston Road to South of Funston Road. Funston Road will be closed at the intersection of NC 133 (River Road). Through traffic from the South should follow NC 87 to US 17 to NC 133 at Belville. Through traffic from the North should follow US 17 to NC 87 to NC 133 North of Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point. Visit DriveNC.gov for a link to the detour route.
