Finance Director

The City of Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina, located 20 miles south of Wilmington and adjoining Southport and Oak Island in coastal Brunswick County is seeking a Finance Director to oversee a growing community. The Finance Director must possess excellent communication and critical thinking skills and a proven record of accomplishment in current public finance.

About the Department and Position:

The Finance Director reports to the City Manager and is responsible for administrative and supervisory work in planning and directing all daily fiscal operations of the City in accordance with the generally accepted principles of governmental accounting and the rules and regulations of the City. Work is performed independently under the direct supervision of the City Manager, with close coordination, and is reviewed through conferences and reports, for desired results. Duties also involve maintenance of the accounts of the City of Boiling Spring Lakes in accordance with generally accepted principles of governmental accounting, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and the rules and regulations of the Commission; prepare and present the annual and amended budgets to the City Manager for review, including revenue and appropriation estimates for all funds; acts as the primary liaison for audits; analyzes audit reports and provides recommendations to the City Manager for implementation and provides financial information to state and federal regulatory agencies; advises department supervisors on financial and budgetary matters.

Training and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, or business administration, plus five (5) years of progressively responsible experience.  Successful completion of the UNC-SOG Finance Officer Certification course desired and/or licensing as a CPA.

Salary Range and Application Process:

Hiring range is $71400. to $ 107100. Starting salary dependent on experience and qualifications.
